I am an Australian of Czech origin living in Sydney. My only claim to fame is my brilliant son Martin, who at 19 nearly completed his honours degree at the University of New South Wales majoring in Pure Mathematics and Computing (he is still working on his thesis).
I found the Wikipedia when I was searching for SU(2) groups, and I must admit I instantly fell in love with it. I have a science degree in Pure Mathematics at UNSW and an arts dergree majoring in Russian. I would love to claim being a polymath, but I guess that is only my aspiration.
I worked as a computer project manager for a while, but when my son became dramatically unhappy at school, I decided to teach him at home. I never planned to be a teacher, but teaching a profoundly gifted child is a wonderful experience. So much so that now when Martin's knowledge is well beyond my reach, I decided to teach other gifted children. I believe that extremely gifted children are about the most disadvantaged group of them all. I have my own company: "Advanced Mathematical Opportunities", but I have never as yet advertised. Most students come to me through a recommendation by either the NSW Assciation for Gifted and Talented Children or the Australian Mensa. What a joy to teach a young child who is keen to learn, but did not have an opportunity until his parents found me.
I am not quite ready to contribute any articles as yet, but I have already made a few grammatical and/or link correctins. I must say that I feel quite overwhelmed by AxelBoldt's contributions. I noticed his name in the history pages and then looked up his page. Your great work is very much appreciated! May be one day I'll write to you personally, but I am not ready as yet.
