Camera

I've used three different digital cameras to take the pictures. For the Japan, Washington DC, Johns Hopkins, and US Naval Academy pics I used a Canon PowerShot G1; for the Thailand pictures I used a Canon PowerShot S110 (the worst camera of the three); and for the remainder I used a Nikon D70 (the best camera by far of the three). I'm concerned that the comment you added to an anon vote almost appears to apply to my vote as well because of the indentation. However, if I move the indentation of the anon vote out to match the other votes, then it will get its own number in the numbered list, and will then appear to be counted. Could you help me figure out how to set it apart (horizontal rules, a new section for Anon votes, or some other better idea you come up with) from my vote without adding it to the count? Thank you for catching and reverting some vandalism to several pages recently, one of which was to a page I had originally created about an American author. Someone with an Asian IP had gone in and put a bunch of links all over the bottom of that page without my knowing and done the same to several other entries I didn't work on, but somehow you caught all of it and fixed the pages vandalized by that user IP. Could you explain how the ArbCom "get out the vote" tag works?

I was impressed that you made a tag of the "Get Out the Vote" banner and links.

Where is this maintained? Can you explain how it works?

I had second thoughts about asking someone to do this early on, instead of asking people to make their own copies, because I was worried a vandal could edit the central source and damage a lot of pages all at once.

Is it possible to protect the source so there are no unwanted surprises with its appearance or where the links lead to?

If not, wouldn't it be better for everyone to have their own copy on each of their pages?

Hello. I noticed that Greatest hits of Enrico Caruso Vol. 2 has been recreated. You and Infrogmation have each deleted that article once in the last few days. Since the article appears to be similar to many other track listing 'articles' we have, I wanted to consult you before deleting it for a third time. Made in Heaven

My first impulse was to leave the follow-up column blank, but I looked at other chronologies first, and those seem to indicate that compilation albums are included, e.g. Unplugged (Alice in Chains) has a regular album as a predecessor and Nothing Safe: Best of the Box as successor, even though the latter is a best-of album with no original material. Not only that, even non-albums are included. Take The Song Remains the Same (album), for example, which has a movie as a follow-up.

This was my first contribution to Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums, so forgive me if I was mistaken... It seems clearer policy on this is needed. (And of course I agree that Made in Heaven was the last true Queen album, and damn all those necrophilic cash-in follow-ups to hell, too. :-) JRM 18:51, 2004 Dec 5 (UTC)

Fubini's theorem

Hi, you reverted my changes to Fubini's theorem. I am not an expert on this, so correct me if I'm wrong, but the statement

$\int _{A}f(x)\,dx\int _{B}g(x)\,dx=\int _{A\times B}f(x)g(x)\,dx$

does not make much sense to me, since on the right-hand-side the x is drawn from $A\times B$, which is not the domain of f or g. What does

$\int _{0}^{1}f(x)\,dx\int _{0}^{1}g(x)\,dx=\int _{[0,1]^{2}}f(x)g(x)\,dx$

mean? I guess it should be

$\int _{0}^{1}f(x)\,dx\int _{0}^{1}g(x)\,dx=\int _{[0,1]^{2}}f(x)g(y)\,d(x,y)$

with x and y drawn from [0,1] respectively.

Therefore I still think my changes were correct and the current version is not. Could you please take another look at it? (128.59.21.105 | talk)

I'll talk with User:Michael Hardy, but he just made a comment about the left-hand-side of the equation with which I don't have any problem (x/y are just indices). I guess he withdrew his comment when he saw that the point was the right-hand-side.

"Amerime" redirect

I changed the "Amerime" stub to a redirect to Anime after reading Wikipedia:Votes_for_deletion/Amerime. The author LifeFantastic admits that he coined the term as a "social experiment" to try to add a world to the English language see teast. I did a google search which showed that the term is only used on wikipedia and several wiki-based sites. The article has been deleted several times before but has been replaced with stubs on these occasions from users who try to close up references to from a few other pages.

Please change the page back to a redirect to the main Anime article. Thanks23:57, 8 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Article Licensing

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "{{DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual}}" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. Vandalism

Hello there,

Apparently, while Click on an image of Charles I(of England) there was a bar that told me I had new mesages. Following it, there was a page that listed my IP as being a vandal-ip. This concerns me greatly, for I use wikipedia daily to help me with my studies(it is an invalubale tool). I have no idea how this has happened or what I have done and quite frankly, im very confused. Libel v. kindness

Hi Dan, thanks for your note. Maybe people are just being kind. But it's an odd sort of kindness to say "people shouldn't call you a pornographer, even if you are . . ." I feel that this nonsense should not be dignified with constant reference to it. People can send their sympathy by private e-mail, which would be much more appropriate in my view. You just broke Template:Book reference

Are you willing to fix every single article that refers to Template:Book reference? Template argument names are case-sensitive; changing them to lowercase breaks every single article that's used that template. If you want to keep that change, I'd recommend fixing the mess you left. —Morven 06:23, Jan 5, 2005 (UTC)

Oh, furthermore: including "ISBN" in the template breaks every single user of the template too, and furthermore makes it unusable for every book which uses another cataloging scheme (e.g. Library of Congress); and removing the bullet breaks them all too. I'm reverting your changes to the template until either:

1. You show willingness to fix articles that use a template if you change the way it works, or:
2. You work to achieve a consensus for the changes and thus find others who are willing to help in that effort.

While I'm keen on "be bold", I'm not keen on leaving Wikipedia in a broken state, either. —Morven 06:26, Jan 5, 2005 (UTC)

Ah, forgive me for assuming you hadn't thought of that. On the bright side, every place it's used can be found at Special:Whatlinkshere/User:Rdsmith4/sig, so you could fix them all without much effort. But you wouldn't really need to bother because the MediaWiki upgrade left broken sigs strewn about almost every talk page, so no one would think much of it if you had a broken sig here or there. Speedy deletion

Hi Dan. I understand that they are on VfD but if they also warrant being Speedy Deletions I think that I should be able to flag them as such. If they truely are Speedy Deletions, is it worth taking up people's time voting for them as normal deletions. Yes I understand what you are saying, but it doesn't seem that all of the other articles that have been set to Speedy (and in fact Speedy Deleted) strictly matched the criteria. I feel that the ones I have flagged are nonsense (although not in the strictest sense). Copyright violation

Sorry to be cramping your style and I don't wish to discourage your enthusiasm, but you really can't go around posting copyright material without either the owner's permission or a serious argument as to why its fair use.

In this case the image is owned by a large media company in England that often sues pirates and others for breaches of copyright and I fear you are opening Wikipedia up to a whole world of pain.

So in future, please take care with what you upload. And please don't (if you are) use sockpuppets to vote to keep an image when there is no legal basis for doing so. It only reflects on you as a user.

Keep up the good work and don't let this discourage you.
