If Lesbos is an island, then why are two islands highlighted on the map? —Psychonaut 15:54, 10 Feb 2004 (UTC)

I clarified this.--Patrick 22:26, 10 Feb 2004 (UTC)
In case you didn't find out, it's both an island and a Prefecture of Greece. What is shown in the map is the the Prefecture's territory; Lesvos the island is the larger of the two shown. -- HawkeyE 04:59, July 19, 2005 (UTC)

Lesbians?

[edit]

An editor (Mahogany h00r) just changed the "See Also" section to redirect a reference to Lesbian to point to the language dialect Lesbian Greek. I'm thinking that, particularly in an English-language encyclopedia, by far the most notable thing about Lesbos is the association with lesbianism. I mean, I bet this page gets hundreds as many times the hits as the other Prefectures of Greece. Two questions: 1. Do people think I'm incorrect? 2. If not, what's the best way to handle this in the article? I would add a sentence to the introduction, something along the lines of "In modern times, outside Greece, Lesbos is best known as the home of Sappho, an ancient poet known for her romantic poems about women; this led to the term lesbian to describe such relationships." I could even see adding (somewhere in the article, perhaps when describing the economy) that Lesbos is a popular lesbian tourist destination, though I'd want to source that claim first. Thoughts?--Inonit 14:57, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Agree. The article on Laconia mentions its relation to the adjective laconic HonoluluMan (talk) 08:50, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
