Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on Christ the Redeemer (statue). Please take a moment to review my edit. You may add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it, if I keep adding bad data, but formatting bugs should be reported instead. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether, but should be used as a last resort. I made the following changes:

Prior statue built in 1889?

[edit]

The text currently says "In 1889, the country became a republic and, the statue was manufactured along with the Statue of Liberty and the Paris Tower but never displayed and, with the official separation of state and church, the idea was dismissed." This is confusing on several levels. Firstly, it implies that a prior statue was actually made. Is that correct? The link cited doesn't say so. Secondly, what is the "Paris Tower?" Is the Eiffel Tower meant? Thirdly, in what sense would the statue have been "manufactured with" the Statue of Liberty and the Eiffel Tower? Does it mean they were made by the same people? In the same year? The Statue of Liberty was started in the early 1870s and finished in 1886. And finally, the bizarre phrasing suggests that the statue was manufactured after the country became a republic, then it was not displayed, then the separation of the church and state happened, and then the idea of having a statue was dismissed. For the time being, I'm going to change the wording to "In 1889 the country became a republic, and due to the separation of church and state, the idea of the statue was dismissed." If anyone knows more about a statue that was built but never displayed, feel free to amend it. Sadiemonster (talk) 16:38, 29 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
