[edit]Page was later converted to redirect, and then in fact deleted. It was brought up on VfU and undeleted. All you school inclusionists, now that the article has been undeleted and you have gotten your wish, will you improve this article? Sjakkalle 08:53, 11 May 2005 (UTC)
- Seems to be a perfectly acceptable stub at the moment. Why must those who want it retained on these grounds "improve" it? If someone who lives in or knows Erode comes along, probably they will have more to say about it than do people living elsewhere. --Tony Sidaway|Talk 10:04, 13 May 2005 (UTC)
Well, frankly, at the moment it qualifies for speedy deletion, as it has no content beyond the fact that the school exists. (yes, it was used as a polling station — as are many, many schools.) Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 11:42, 13 May 2005 (UTC)
The fact that the school exists and has been used as a polling station tends to contradict your statement that the article qualifies for speedy deletion. This information is verifiable, so it cannot qualify for speedy, indeed I do not see any part of the deletion policy that specifically applies except, possibly, that it's too trivial and should be merged with Erode. The result of the VfD, where merging was discussed, was keep, however. This doesn't mean you can't merge, but some people may legitimately oppose such a move. --Tony Sidaway|Talk 11:56, 13 May 2005 (UTC)
- Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion: "Very short articles with little or no context". I don't see that this is much different from:
- John Smith lives in Birmingham, England. He has voted in elections. He's about sixty-three."
- We know from the article title that this is a school; all the article tells us is that it's in Erode, that like thousands of other schools it's been used as a polling station, and that it's "around" 150 years old. It's difficult to imagine an article with much less content. Verifiability isn't my point.
- Of course, some people think that any school belongs in Wikipedia — hence Sjakkalle's challenge, whose assumptions I'm defending. Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 14:05, 13 May 2005 (UTC)
I still don't get what you're saying here. The article has little content but it does adequately identify the school. Please feel free to add content. It doesn't qualify for speedy. --Tony Sidaway|Talk 07:43, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- But why is it enough merely to identify a school, when just about any other article topic demands some degree of notability (or, at least, content beyond the title)? Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 11:37, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Well this article certainly has more than "content beyond the title." Whether schools are "notable" or not is debatable, and whether "notability" is a requirement is also debatable. I'm prepared to accept that the article informs me that there is a secondary school in Erode, Tamil Nadu called Mahajana High School. I regard this as useful information, particularly for people wanting to know about local schools in Tamil Nadu. In time more articles will be created about schools in Southern India. I don't think this information is of any less value than the names of hit singles by The Searchers. --Tony Sidaway|Talk 12:21, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit]Note this page needs to be disambiguated if it is kept. There is at least one other Mahajana High School in Karnataka founded in 1937 with 800 students. refer Mahajana high school web page & Mahajana education society. --AYArktos 01:54, 18 May 2005 (UTC)
