I believe this shouldn't be merged with the Type 4 article as there are actually two Squarebacks, one based on the Type 3 and another based on the Type 4.

This should have a reference to the type 4 but not be merged with it... The Squareback first surfaced as a VW Type 3. It, along with the Fastback and Notchback, were around from the 60's till 74 when the line was changed to the Type 4.

The 3 and 4 are cousins, but they are each unique. These pages should not be merged. There should be a type 3 page discussing the three body styles including the squareback and references to the type 4.

Do a Google image search for Type III and Type IV, and then see if you really want to merge the entries. The folly of this should become clear...

I am a Type 3 owner and I think that merging the two articles would be ridiculously stupid. Both vehicles are very different machines, more so than a Passat is different from a Jetta.

Agreed. The type 4 is a totally different car. The type three uses the old 1600 magnesium case that was used on buses up to 71 and all beetles. The type 4 uses a 2000cc aluminum case with distinct cooling tin. The type four has more in common with 72-up buses than the type 3.

I believe that the Type 3 Squareback should be part of the Type 3 article, and the Type 4 Squareback be part of the Type 4 article, and this one not exist... ;) --Bhtooefr 15:35, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
