Well, I had been anonymous...but only because I've been getting my feet wet. I hadn't come across the site until last month, so I'm a real newbie around here. But I think I've found a little project that I can do with some Canadian political stuff, so I can putter at that in my spare time and try to get used to the place. Annika Sorenstam

While it's highly probable that Sörenstam is, as you write, Swedish-born, i.e. born by Swedish parents, I wonder why this should be emphasized. I was under the impression that it's of more interest to know that she is born in Sweden, alternatively that she is of Swedish nationality.

Perhaps this is a usage difference: North Americans vs. Brits and Europeans? In the contexts I am most used to hearing, the phrases would be Canadian-born and American-born to refer to the place of birth. I won't edit it further until I have a chance to double check my impression via a reference work. But the phrase "Sweden born" sounds unnatural to my ears. Perhaps omitting "born" and switching to "Swedish" would suffice for both of us? - Cafemusique 21:10 23 May 2003 (UTC)

A quick Google search shows many more results when searching for "swedish-born" instead of "Sweden-born", and the context does not appear to be one which would refer to parents as opposed to place of birth. - Cafemusique 21:28 23 May 2003 (UTC)

Swedish-born means born in Sweden, period. It's an idiom, eh? If you want to say that someone was born of Swedish parents, you say that she was born of Swedish parents. Ain't nobody blurring nothing. -- Another hoser (not Cafemusique)

Override power v. notwithstanding clause

Just wondering why you removed the link to override power on the Implied Bill of Rights article. Isn't the override power is another name for the notwithstanding clause amongst Canadian constitutional law writers and commentators? — Alex756 04:54, 28 Nov 2003 (UTC)

Chautauqua

Thank you for changing a couple of words on my draft of the "Chautauqua Institution" article. Probably an improvement. I was trying to indicate that one doesn't have to be religious to get something out of Chaut, which is a question often asked. But it's also true that one doesn't have to be interested in politics, or music, to get something out of Chaut. The whole paragraph could probably do with rewriting and elaborating.

Soap articles

I noticed you made a comment to the OLTL articles. As someone who works almost exclusively with soap opera articles, I don't think the cast lists that User:PeterAKer added really provide substance to the article. I'm tempted to revert all of his changes...they seem detrimental to the article and its readability. Mike H 02:51, Oct 24, 2004 (UTC)

Generally regarded by most viewers at the time? Would that be better wording? I haven't met many OLTL viewers who thought the first go-round with them was crap. The second one, yeah, but not the first. I know original research is kinda frowned upon, but I don't know how to best phrase it. I found an article on the resident of Hibberts, Maine - should we mention her?

I noticed that you edited Hibberts, Maine, a while back and raised the question of census confidentiality. I found an article on the one person who lives there. Given what's written there, is it appropriate to mention the resident's identity/ information in the article? Monowi, Nebraska, also has a population of 1, and we mention its resident (Elsie Eiler) in the article; she's been well-publicized (on Paul Harvey's radio show and quite a few newspapers). The article on Hibberts is a reprint from the Boston Globe, so that town has received some publicity. But given her condition, would it be better to protect her privacy? She doesn't exactly seem to be the type of person who likes having people come visit... --Idont Havaname 03:57, 16 July 2005 (UTC)

• The Monowi resident does not have her own article (she's merged in with Monowi's) and has gotten more publicity. Wikified years

The wording in WP:DATE has been changed a little since I last looked. It used to be more clearly a recommendation against linking bare years; now it's equivocal. There is a further discussion at Wikipedia:Only_make_links_that_are_relevant_to_the_context. The reference to WP:DATE in the summary at least gives any interested reader the link to a discussion of the issue. Most editors, I suspect, don't know there's any disagreement and simply believe that all years should be linked, because they see it so often. The mechanism for linking/formatting dates is pretty unintuitive and the rationale is controversial; not a good combination. Colonies Chris 13:57, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply -- no problem! I believe the crux of it is this: a deletion review is held to determine if the AfD was conducted properly and with good reason. The closing admin clearly stated reasons; others opposed. Subsequent reasoned comments are not limited to admins (so do so if you wish), but I understand if you opt not to comment further.
