[edit]

history channel website suggest a link to the knights templar massacre, should that be included here? Why Friday the 13th Spelled Doom for the Knights Templar | HISTORY 57.140.32.6 (talk) 17:44, 12 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Counter to next Friday 13th only works for 1 timezone

[edit]

A counter was added onthe 25th of June by @WikiBits17 that, in my timezone, currently reads:

There are 12 hours, 25 minutes and 42 seconds until the next Friday the 13th (September 2024).

The problem is it has been Friday 13th here for over 9 hours. Since the Countdown template only works for GMT, it will be always wrong for the vast majority of users. IMO it should be specified that this refers only to GMT time, or better yet removed, the functionality it provides is not terribly useful. 23:42, 12 September 2024 (UTC) MFdeS (talk) 23:42, 12 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The countdown seems like a cool idea but in its current form it's extremely dysfunctional. Not only does it work only for GMT without actually indicating it in the article, but it is also set to GMT noon, not midnight, so by the time the counter shows that Friday the 13th has come, it will have already happened in half the world. 85.230.182.59 (talk) 03:21, 13 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The next Friday the 13th is in this upcoming December 13tth, 2024 this year. Friday the 13th stems from Old Norse Mythology. Friday originally called "Freyas Day." https://themacweekly.com/82330/opinion/how-the-meaning-of-friday-the-13th-has-changed-over-time/#:~:text=The%20English%20word%20%E2%80%9CFriday%E2%80%9D%20stems,around%2013%20times%20per%20year. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sam9211 (talkcontribs) 14:58, 19 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

How about just including a link to an external countdown instead, like [1]? Elleh3113 (talk) 18:38, 13 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This is not a good idea because it does seem like a bit of personal website or simliar here. Generally we want to have this info in the article itself. Replicative Cloverleaf (talk) 18:54, 13 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, it really isn't useful. In fact, the countdown template even mentions that "[t]his template should not be used in article[...]". Also it doesn't help that the countdown's date needs to be manually updated. As such I have been semi-BOLD (well, technically not quite) and removed that countdown.
