Discussion
[edit]The material in the section "Additional Information" seems like it belongs here on the Discussion page. Let's discuss it and make a decision, then do the edits that result. Phytism (talk) 15:03, 22 February 2011 (UTC)
- I agree, and moved the text here:
- The Hamlet of Bellona is not included.
- Bellona is an unincorporated community located in Yates County at latitude 42.757 and longitude -77.015
- The name "Penn Yan" is commonly understood by the locals to come from "Pennsylvania Yankeetown", not Pennsylvania Yankee, as stated in the article. In the sixties, the welcome signs at the town limits referred to the town as such (in small letters)."
- The text was added by LuciusP in this edit. I added Bellona to the list of villages and hamlets, after verifying that it is within the county and at least big enough to have a post office. The information about Penn Yan is probably of more interest to its own article. //Essin (talk) 13:05, 15 April 2012 (UTC)
NYS History
[edit]The article is dominated by details on the drawing of county lines in colonial New York. While current Yates County is part of the affected territory, most of that action was far to the east, and of little specific applicability to Yates County. Would it be possible to instead provide a link to a Wiki page that describes that county redrawing for the whole colony, with maps! It is interesting and scholarly, but not central to the Yates article. Phytism (talk) 15:03, 22 February 2011 (UTC)
- That was the impression I got too. It's confusing that many of the newly-formed counties described didn't cover any part of the future Yates County. //Essin (talk) 13:05, 15 April 2012 (UTC)
