Record Labels

Hi Warpozio - I note you're adding quite a few new entries on record labels. When you contribute one, could you please include the text [[Category:Record labels]] at the end of the article? Please don't create substubs

Just a polite reminder not to create substubs. It's much better for Wikipedia if you create normal stubs instead. While substubs shouldn't be deleted once they are created (unless they are patent nonsense or vandalism), they shouldn't be created in the first place. • I agree. Warpozio, your works are very much welcomed and appreciated, but they need more substance. Your entry for Kama Sutra Records is a good example of how to do it right. You should consider a formula that includes the year of the labels' founding, the founding members, important acts, mergers, etc. Remember, this is a reference work and the more you add, the more your articles can help others. Verb tenses

Thought I'd drop you a line to say that your record label articles are looking much better. Very interesting stuff given the fact I work in broadcasting. One minor problem: Your verb tenses are backwards. You've been using present-tense verbs to describe past events. Minor quibble, and I'm sure you'll be more careful in the future. Inter-language wiki links

Hi. I notice you removed the interwiki link to the Japanese version on the King Records article. As the Japanese link seems to work (as far as I can tell not knowing that language), I put it back. Canaan

Hi. You added the text "Canaan Records is a subsidiary of Word Records, started in the sixties." to The Winner Records. As far as I know, this isn't relevent, and your text doesn't say how Canaan is connected to The Winner. I'm guessing you accidentally put this in the wrong place? Pye Records

I'm curious as to why you chose to remove the info re: Petula Clark I added to this entry. As important as she was to the label, omitting any mention of her seems strange. The Humungous Image Tagging Project

Hi. You've helped with the Wikipedia:WikiProject Wiki Syntax, so I thought it worth alerting you to the latest and greatest of Wikipedia fixing project, User:Yann/Untagged Images, which is seeking to put copyright tags on all of the untagged images. There are probably, oh, thirty thousand or so to do (he said, reaching into the air for a large figure). But hey: they're images ... you'll get to see lots of random pretty pictures. Article Licensing

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "{{DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual}}" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. A&M spam

I see you've been cleaning up the format of the external links to the A&M site added by the anon. I think the links should be deleted altogether. All the anon has done is to write a plug for the site and then slap on links to the site's main page. The anon is putting the links in articles for artists whose tangential connection with A&M is long over with; the link is always to the site's main page, not to anything about the artist (at least in the ones I've seen so far); and we don't let a description of an external link include a paragraph plugging the site. I was planning to delete the spam links and I just wanted to let you know that you shouldn't waste your time fixing the format. I had to sign off before doing more than a few, though, and when I came back I saw that you'd eliminated the rest of them. Thanks, good work! The A&M spammer is back, only this time he seems to have taken to heart a comment I made to him last time. Instead of just slapping on a generic link to his home page, he's tailoring the links to the subjects of the articles. He's still creating some problems. Of the ones I looked at, his addition to Carpenters messed up the previous link, and Word Records had no "External links" section so he made it "See also". I've fixed those. Overall, though, I'm inclined to leave these links in, if the others are like the two I checked. You've done a lot of work on these articles, though, so I wanted to see what you think about it. Don't copy a page to move it

Hi Warpozio,

When you need to move a page, please don't just copy the contents to the new page title, as you did with Seraphin Records → Seraphim Records. Instead, use the "move" tab, which appears next to the "edit this page" tab at the top of the screen.

Hi - I made a list of users who've been around long enough to have made lots of edits but aren't admins. why a seperate Drive-Thru discography?

Hi, I noticed you moved the Drive-Thru release list to a seperate article. I was just wondering why you did this, because I felt it is kind of unnecessary. HarryCane 17:17, 19 July 2005 (UTC)

Discographies are not very relevant in articles about record labels (IMHO), as they tell hardly anything about the history of a label. A second reason would be that this can add alot of bloat to articles (imagine someone adding a discography of EMI ;) But as I can understand that some people are interested in reading discograhies I moved it to another document which can be edited as needed. warpozio 10:41, 20 July 2005 (UTC)

Record labels

Wikipedia has a strict rule about not simultaneously filing an article in both a parent category and a subcategory of the same parent. Could you please not add Category:Record labels to a category if it's already in Category:Independent record labels, Category:Defunct record labels or a country-specific record labels category? List of independent UK record labels

Hi - Could you explain why you've been deleting some of the town references from List of independent UK record labels? I was putting some effort in yesterday to adding that info, so the page would be useful. mcld 21:07, 17 October 2005 (UTC)

I've deleted them because the information is already stated in the article itself. The lists of record labels (List of jungle and drum n bass record labels, List of independent record labels, List of electronic music record labels & List of record labels) all use this same format, if the article is still red-linked then additionional information (website, location, ...) can be placed in the list, otherwise that information is moved to the article itself. OK, thanks, I see your logic. Personally I think it's particularly useful to have the town info listed - so that someone who wants to know (e.g.) what are the indie record labels in Wales, or Yorkshire, they can glance down the list of towns. Any merit in that? mcld 21:38, 18 October 2005 (UTC)

Why did you edit my article on Beserkley Records?

First, the label is defunct... that is why I had it past tense. Secondly, though there are separate articles on The Modern Lovers and their leader, I put the "&" in there to reflect that he was a part of that band, and in fact, that was the name of the act for awhile.

Sorry that wasn't very clear to me. If the label is defunct, then it is best to apply the category "defunct label". As no end date was stated nor the defunct category was used it seemed like a typo. warpozio 23:00, 13 November 2005 (UTC)

Corpus Christi Records

Hi Warpozio. Why did you remove the discography from the page? If I formatted the page incorrectly or there is a reason not to post a discography (I have seen them on many other labels) then I would appreciate your pointing me to some templates or existing pages which I can copy. Equal Vision Records

Neurofunk origins and artists

There are two different points of view about the neurofunk subgenre of drum'n'bass. The first is that neurofunk was originated by the Audio Blueprint label. According to this point of view, neurofunk artists are Stakka & Skynet, Teebee, Photek, Black Sun Empire, Gridlok, etc. The second is that neurofunk was originated by Ed Rush and Optical (Virus Recordings label), and that other artists are Cause 4 Concern, Mayhem, Noisia, Phace, Matrix, etc. Please cite sources on the neurofunk talk page to support any arguments. — Anrie Nord 2006-01-31 15:28Z

Hi... I don't think it's a good idea adding "List of xxx label" entries to See Also sections in articles. Why would somebody reading about, say, Rough Trade want to see a list of record labels? And, if they did want such a thing, why not just click on the category at the bottom of the article?

Page Blanking

On 8-May, you blanked Heritage Records. Blanking pages is generally considered a bad idea. I agree that the original redirect was wrong, but instead of blanking, you should find an alternate target or follow the redirect portion of the deletion procedures. A case brought by Apple Corps against Apple Computer, regarding possible infringement of a previous agreement between the two parties in respect of distribution of music, was heard in a London High Court. The story made Wikipedia's front page due to a nomination by our own Kingboyk. The story had an amusing second wave in the news and on Wikipedia; be sure to read the article on Guy Goma if you missed it! Project News The Beatles article has been approved for inclusion in Wikipedia Version 0.5, making it one of the first 20 articles to be selected and the first in the Music category. The Beatles discography has been improved, thanks particularly to the efforts of Analogdemon and Steelbeard1. The Ringo Starr solo single It Don't Come Easy has been co-adopted by simonthebold. Eleven new articles have been listed in the Project Log since 1 May. The hottest Project page this month has been Policy Talk, where some lively discussion has taken place regarding the (perennial) question of the capitalisation of the letter T in "The Beatles". After seeking the comments of Wikipedian third parties unrelated to the project, the proponents and opponents concluded that the current naming policy was correct. The discussion had the added bonus of bringing in some new members. Kingboyk and Lar have instigated an overhaul of the article classification system involving the project talk page template and the possible use of MathBot. Member News New members to the project this month include Analogdemon, HighwayCello, Wootking, Lukobe, Crestville, Vera, Chuck & Dave, JaymzSpyhunter and Brian.D. Project member (and "co-instigator" of The Beatles Project) Lar was made an Administrator. Project member Kingboyk (the other guilty party) has been awarded a Music Barnstar for his contributions, including his work within The Beatles Project, and has also stewarded the KLF article to Featured Article status this month. Sometimes-contributor ZincOrbie has also been awarded a Barnstar for his work on the Badfinger article. Congratulations to all! Beatles News Billy Preston, often considered the Fifth Beatle, died on 6 June at age 59. The American soul musician was a long term friend of The Beatles and was the only person to receive joint credit on a Beatles single ("Get Back"). Preston was an Apple Records recording artist and he performed at George Harrison's Concert for Bangladesh and at the Concert for George, both energetic and memorable performances. He also played regularly with The Rolling Stones and a number of other artists. Apple Corps has combined forces with Cirque du Soleil to create a show called "LOVE", featuring music by The Beatles, to be produced at the Mirage theatre in Las Vegas. The deal is reportedly worth US$30 million. George Harrison had originally been involved, as well as George Martin and Giles Martin. Issue of the Month Despite it being the lead news article of last month, there is still help required in the assessing of articles and the migrating of comments. It is hoped that the review will identify those areas that need some(/lots of) remedial work, and that the Project participants and those editors who are involved in the the FA admin pages to can work together to "save" the status of the article. At the moment there is some discussion as to why it has been listed, and what may be needed to help it retain its FA status. It may well be that some work is going to be required in formulating a plan of action, and then some more in achieving those aims. The FA status is obviously quite important to the Project, and it would be appreciated if participants are able to provide assistance in keeping the article up to standard. Beatles News The Beatles are suing Capitol Records and EMI over royalties and the rights to the band's master recordings. (Billboard) Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band tops a British poll as the best number-one album of all time, with Revolver, Abbey Road, and The Beatles (album) also in the top 10. (BBC) Project News Unfortunately, the Featured Article badge on The Beatles was revoked. The article was immediately nominated for Good Article status, which it received later that same day. Project member Kingboyk said of the nomination, "I'm quite happy about it really, as I feel that GA is about where we're at and gives some incentive to work on the article." Eleanor Rigby (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) failed in its good article nomination, but only on two minor points (see its talk page). If you want a Blue Peter badge, why not fix those issues and resubmit it? We have a new category for Beatles articles needing attention. If you're looking for something to work on, the articles in this category and the subcategories need some TLC. To put an article in this category, tag its talk page with {{WPBeatles|attention=yes}}. Kingboyk has given {{WPBeatles}} another major overhaul, and has assessed all of the Beatles articles. He would be grateful if other editors would leave comments on the state of articles, needed improvements and so on, by clicking the Comments link in the template. Also, feel free to revise the gradings—the assessments were done quickly, and article quality can change. No articles have been adopted this past month. Adopt one now! Beatles News The Royal Mail has recently announced that commemorative stamps featuring various album covers from The Beatles will be released in January 2007. The covers to be commemorated are With the Beatles, Revolver, Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, Abbey Road, and Let It Be. The site of the former Casbah Club, operated by Mona Best (mother of Pete) in the basement of her house, and where the nascent Beatles played and rehearsed, has been accorded Grade II Listed status following a recommendation by British Heritage. Project News Some Project articles are having their Featured Article status reviewed, and the comments are not encouraging. The articles are A Day in the Life and A Hard Day's Night (song). (She Loves You has already had its FA status revoked.) Please participate in the discussion and help improve the articles! Beatlesque has been overhauled by andreasegde. Brian Epstein has been adopted by Liverpool Scouse. Issue of the Month Again, the issue of the month is inline citations. A Day in the Life, A Hard Day's Night (song), and Get Back have all been defeatured, as they failed to satisfy criterion 1(c) of What is a featured article?, and other song FAs are due for the chopping block. Inline citations are an important aspect of articles—they ensure verifiability and reliability, and they remove original research. Additionally, they give readers the option to read the original source material and view it within context. Basically: All direct quotations attributed to Beatles members pooled from interviews need full inline citations. All critical comments about songs or albums need full inline citations to notable music critics, magazines opinions, or reviews, as opposed to being merely comments by Wikipedians. Inline citations need: author name, article name, publication date, and name of publication. Such info is still preferable even if quoting from an interview posted upon a website; when this is the case, place the URL link at the end of the citation with the date it was last accessed. (This will help editors retrieve the page using the Wayback Machine, should the link go dead in the future.) Beatles News The Beatles are due to release a soundtrack album, LOVE, at the end of November, as a companion to their Cirque du Soleil adaptation of the same name. It will feature remastered and remixed versions of their previously released songs, including some new medleys. Paul's getting a divorce. Pain, arguing, and fighting abound. Project News Featured Article drive: A number of project members are collaborating on Paul McCartney's article, with the aim of getting it to Featured Article status. The work is going well and all help is welcome! Check in at Talk:Paul McCartney if you want to help. The Wings tours are really nicely documented now (see Category:Wings tours), but Category:The Beatles tours is almost empty. Kingboyk and the rest of us would love to see (and read) articles on each Beatles tour, including the pre-fame tours of the UK—and the Hamburg trips, of course! Breakbeat Science

I don't think that you were the originator of the copyvio (it was an unregistered user back in 2004 who first did it, and the user could have been from the label itself), but you should have caught it; anyway, the article on Breakbeat Science also flagrantly violated NPOV and was more than three years out-of-date (I could tell because it mentioned Breakbeat Science Exercise.01 as the most recent release and Billion Dollar Gravy as an upcoming release by London Elektricity, when in reality there are at least 4 releases in the Exercise series and London Elektricity has since released a new album. Then again, the "about us" part of the site hasn't been updated since 2003 either.

I certainly hope that you can get some people to improve this article and update it; I love drum+bass, and the Breakbeat Science article doesn't do the label justice.

Issue of the Month Wikipedia's standards are improving all the time, with the result that many articles in The Beatles Wikiproject are being nominated for review of their FA and GA status - and many are losing that accolade. It is difficult, with such a large number of articles and the ease with which editors may make changes which are detrimental, to maintain the standard of articles, let alone improve them. As ever, members efforts are both appreciated and needed to keep the Project on course. Beatles News A Beatles compilation called "Love", featuring tracks remastered by George Martin (with his son Giles), has been released and has made number 1 in Canada. The impending divorce between Paul McCartney and the former Heather Mills continues to make the pages in the tabloid press in the UK. Project News New to the Project Log is the nomination of four articles for consideration as suitable for collaboration, in the manner in which Paul McCartney is now being edited, once the aforementioned article is completed. The nominations are George Harrison, Apple Corp, The Beatles(!!), all proposed by Kingboyk and John Lennon, proposed by LuciferMorgan. Interested editors should make themselves known on the various article talk pages. Three new articles have been listed in the Project Log since 1 November, being Wings tours by Kingboyk, and List of Beatles concerts and Mathew Street, both by Liverpool Scouse. The hottest Project page this month has been Paul McCartney (see above and below). Another Project article, I Want to Hold Your Hand, has lost its FA status and both Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band and Beatles For Sale have lost their GA (Good Article) status. In the meantime, Real Love is being considered at WP:FARC. Some great news is that Paul McCartney has passed its nomination for GA status, although with the polite request that the introduction be looked at. Member News New members to the project since the last issue include mrmaroon25, Kyo cat and "I Am the Eggman".	From the Editors If one is to be mercenary about the subject, it should be noted that Paul McCartney is going to be more noteworthy than usual in the near future as his divorce case comes to court. In that case it is great to note that a small group of Project Members (plus another individual who does not feel compelled to register himself despite important contributions) have worked very hard, and in an atmosphere of good humour, to take the McCartney piece to a succesful Good Article nomination. Perhaps this is the method to use for future articles, a small dedicated team concentrating on one subject at a time. Of course, all members are invited to join any existing group or even go about forming their own. Please note any such action in the Project Log. The British Post Office have released a series of stamps depicting various Beatles album covers. Project News The Paul McCartney article is being primped and primed for submission as a Featured Article candidate. The good folk who have been working on the above article have turned their attention to the John Lennon page. Everyone is, of course, invited to contribute. 1 new article (by keithmall) has been listed in the Project Log since 1 December 2006, being The Beatles Book, a monthly magazine. The hottest Project page this month has been the Macca (Paul for those not in the know!) article, again. Other Project news... Please let the editors know if anything is happening, or just contribute it to the next newsletter. WikiProject The Beatles Newsletter Issue 012 – April 2007
Beatles News On Friday 30th March, a deranged fan was held after attempting to force his way into Paul McCartney's mansion. See here for more details. Apple Corps continues to make news, after the recent settlement with Apple Computer over the use of the Apple trademark. On April 10th, the company announced that long-time chief executive Neil Aspinall had stepped down and had been replaced by American Jeff Jones. It was also announced that another long term dispute, this time with EMI over royalties, had been amicably settled prior to Aspinall's departure.[5][6] Project News The article "Jeff Jones (music industry executive)" suddenly becomes of top importance in the Apple sphere of Beatledom. User:Kingboyk has created a stub on the man, but the article needs urgent beefing up (including basic biographical data such as date and place of birth) and, if possible, a photograph of the new Apple chief executive. Mimi Smith promises to have the last word over John yet again; her article is currently a Featured Article Candidate. Brian Epstein is a current GA candidate. See the Status board for more article news. 2 new articles have been listed in the Project Log since 1 March: Tony Barrow and Jeff Jones (music industry executive). With the debate over "the Beatles" vs "The Beatles" continuing to cause ill feeling and a number of resignations from the project from advocates on both sides, Kingboyk attempted to diffuse the situation by blanking the Project Policy page and tagging it as {{historical}}. Although this unilateral action hasn't been reverted as of the time of writing, the reaction was mixed, with two members rejoining the project and others stating their disagreement. With the issue still not resolved, the page was sent to Miscellany for Deletion, for the wider community (and WikiProject The Beatles members) to consider the issue. Member News The membership list has been trimmed, with inactive members listed seperately to help gauge the status of the project. Re: your edit to the Stateside Records article, EMI is a record company. EMI Records is a record label owned by EMI. The article stated that Stateside was phased out in favour of the EMI Records label. Your edit directed the link to the EMI company article. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. EMI (Records)

Hi, I'm curious as to why you changed [[EMI Records]] to [[EMI]] in several articles. Both article names exist, and the context refers to actual record releases, so the page about EMI as a record label rather than an organization seems appropriate. Even if there is a reason for changing the link, your edits also removed the word "records" from the articles, i.e. you did not replace [[EMI Records]] with [[EMI|EMI Records]] or [[EMI]] Records, just [[EMI]].
