Mistral

[edit]

Are sea breeze and mistral the same thing, differently named because they appear in different parts of the world? --Romanm 11:17, 19 Jul 2004 (UTC)

NO . Sea breeze is a scientific name used to denote a phenomenon, while mistral is the "name" given to strong winds that occur over northwestern mediterranean. Also Mistral is NOT a type of sea breeze. Daiyusha (talk) 11:12, 15 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Land breezes

[edit]

Separated out land breeze into its own section late in the article. Also added a couple references, as well as See Also, Reference, and External Links sections to conform the article to wikipedia guidelines. Thegreatdr 13:47, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think that should be right to rename the article title also (Now "Sea breeze" , although the article is not about sea breeze only) --Brezza di terra (talk) 08:58, 31 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Over 8 years have elapsed ... but I agree: rename page to "Land and sea breeze" or "Sea and land breeze". Taylor 49 (talk) 10:27, 9 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Why should the sea breezes over Florida separated out? Surely this phenomenon happens over many peninsulas.

As for the comment above about the mistral, I'm pretty certain that the mistral is not a sea breeze (which is a micro-climate scale phenomenon) but rather it is related to cylones being in particular positions (which is a synoptic scale phenomenon - Synoptic scale meteorology.

Arabic page

[edit]

30.05.11: There is an Arabic language page for this, but I don't know how to add it. نسيم البحر — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.7.126.203 (talk) 10:04, 30 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Thanks for letting us know. Graham87 14:20, 30 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

West Coast

[edit]

There is discussion about sea breezes of Florida, but I suppose the phenomenon must be much stronger on the West Coast, especially in San Francisco and Los Angeles, because the sea is cooled by the Californian current and land temperatures rise higher than the sea temperature. The differential is not always high, but during summer at noon and afternoon I suppose there has to be a sea breeze in these major cities of California? --91.157.12.243 (talk) 16:59, 7 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sea breeze → ? – The name should be "Land and sea breeze" or "Sea and land breeze" or similar, let's discuss which name is best. The existing page covers "Land breeze" and no separate page exists for that. Taylor 49 (talk) 10:40, 9 August 2018 (UTC)--Relisting. There are 2 messy Q-items: [1] and [2]. Taylor 49 (talk) 11:13, 9 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
A shore breeze blows from the sea or the land, it just occurs at shores. "Sea breeze and land breeze" is better than nothing ie keeping "Sea breeze". Taylor 49 (talk) 09:23, 17 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Support move to Sea breeze and land breeze to encompass both, and for consistency with Mountain breeze and valley breeze Lazz_R 14:33, 17 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - totally needless move. The thrust of this topic is sea breezes, and that's the subject that is generally understood. The land breeze is more of a side topic, as it is a related but less notable phenomenon.  — Amakuru (talk) 10:34, 26 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Sea breezes are worldwide known since prehistoric times. Every other use is derivative. Sea breezes are important to humans and birds and many animals, land breezes less so, and land breezes re best explained second. —SmokeyJoe (talk) 23:19, 27 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
