A Song of Sidney Sussex
[edit]Looking for sources of this I found a couple of verses on the college website but the only source I can find for the whole thing is this musical score, a copy of which is held in the University Library, which I will endeavour to check sometime. 143.159.210.215 (talk) 13:01, 14 December 2016 (UTC)
I've found the score in the UL, and have photos of all ten verses. I'll try and put a photo of it here on the talk page; I hope that won't cause copyright issues (surely it's old enough to be out of it by now???). I also have the musical score should anyone want it for whatever reason. (SeamusLeahey (talk) 22:34, 18 December 2016 (UTC))

A note
[edit]Should Sandra Dawson (Master) be listed as Dame rather than Professor (what has the priority)? The Judge institute pages list her title as Dame:
Based on this I propose changing the title to Dame.
- "Professor Dame Sandra Dawson" would be normal, I think; "Dame Sandra Dawson" will do though, I suppose.
- James F. (talk) 11:40, 23 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- Hmm, the college paper refers to her full title as: Professor Dame Sandra Dawson, DBE, which is probably even more abnormal. Everywhere else seems to list her as Dame (compare recent google hits and papers). Shall we go we that then? --HispanoCelt 14:41, Sep 24, 2004 (UTC)
The motto "Dieu me garde de calumnie" is clearly medieval French, not Latin as stated. Can we fix that?
- Everyone can change that, so please be bold and do it! — Richie 22:53, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
- OK, I worked out how to do it, so I did.
- I've changed it to Middle French just to be more precise, this might be overly specific though so feel free to change it back 143.159.210.215 (talk) 14:13, 14 December 2016 (UTC)
The organisation of this page seems to me to be very poor. There's a collection of various pieces of information, some of which are clearly trivia. Then there's a contents section - and then hardly anything! Surely, for a start, the contents should be at the top? I'm inclined to change it all round to make more sense, but I'm not an expert on Sidney Sussex College and this task would surely be better done by someone who could bring more to it - perhaps a fellow or student of the college.
Image copyright problem with File:Cecil Frank Powell.jpg
[edit]The image File:Cecil Frank Powell.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
- That this article is linked to from the image description page.

[edit]I'm planning to change the main image of chapel court. It's wonky, badly angled, and shows patchy grass which is no longer patchy. Unless there are objections I'll do this in the few days. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.102.157.73 (talk) 15:20, 24 March 2011 (UTC)
- Now done.

I've changed the main photo for Sidney to one I took myself; the old one seemed a bit grey and grim to me. Quality's not ace, because I took it with my phone, but I think it's an improvement. (SeamusLeahey (talk) 22:40, 18 December 2016 (UTC))

Some proposed changes
[edit]Hello editors,
I’m proposing an update to the Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge page to include a section listing the Nobel Prize winners affiliated with the college. I understand I have a potential conflict of interest as a current student and am proposing the changes here instead of directly editing the article.
Proposed Content:
List of Nobel Prize winners affiliated with Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge:
- Alan McDiarmid – Nobel Prize in Chemistry, 2000, for the discovery and development of conductive polymers.
- John Walker – Nobel Prize in Chemistry, 1997, for studying how a spinning enzyme creates the molecule that powers cells in muscles.
- Cecil Powell – Nobel Prize in Physics, 1950, for his work on the photography of nuclear processes.
- Charles Wilson – Nobel Prize in Physics, 1927, for inventing the cloud chamber.
Sources:

- "The Nobel Prize in Physics 1950: Cecil Powell". NobelPrize.org. Link https://www.nobelprize.org/prizes/physics/1950/powell/biographical/
- "The Nobel Prize in Physics 1927: Charles Wilson". NobelPrize.org. Link https://www.nobelprize.org/prizes/physics/1927/wilson/biographical/
Placement Request:
I would like to suggest placing this information at the very top of the page, after the first paragraph, similar to the way the Nobel laureates section is presented on the Trinity College, Cambridge page. This ensures that the college’s notable academic achievements are highlighted prominently.
Please review and let me know if these updates can be included or if further adjustments are needed.
Thank you for your time and assistance!
Best regards,
