Quantum of Solace
[edit]I gotta admit, I didn't see that one coming. Predictably I'm already seeing comments on various forums asking what it means, and a lot of people are unaware that it's an Ian Fleming title. 23skidoo (talk) 15:10, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, I saw the forum postings that some folks had found the websites already. It's amusing watching the reactions to the new title. Those who know Fleming seem OK with it and those who don't are flummoxed by it! BTW glad to see I'm not the only one being flooded by image bot messages. I've given up doing anything about them; another user has volunteered to "fix" the images for me. 23skidoo (talk) 17:53, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
Moving
[edit]I just moved Moonraker to Moonraker (novel) and I did the same for the novel/short story articles on From Russia with Love, For Your Eyes Only, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, and You Only Live Twice. The only problem is that I am now trying to move the disambiguation pages to not have (disambiguation) as part of the article title. I tried moving Moonraker (disambiguation) to Moonraker, but it didn't work. Could you please help me with this? For all the other novels that were movies, if I type in just the name, like Casino Royale, it takes me to the disambiguation page where I can then go where I want to go from there. I feel it should be the same for all the articles. Emperor001 (talk) 23:39, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you. I'm not sure how the fix the other pages. I guess I'll just wait for someone else to fix them or find a way to do it myself. Emperor001 (talk) 03:04, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
- Just made a disambiguation page for FRWL, I'll be working on pages for the others. Could you please help me do what you did with Moonraker? Emperor001 (talk) 03:08, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
- Just did the same for The Spy Who Loved Me and You Only Live Twice. A dis. page already exists for OHMSS. Thanks again. Emperor001 (talk) 03:19, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
Typing in From Russia with Love, The Spy Who Loved Me, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, and You Only Live Twice leads to the novels page, not the disambiguation page. I think that just typing in the title without a mentioning as to whether its the novel or film should direct to the disambiguation page like it does with the other films. Emperor001 (talk) 03:29, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. I think I got everything fixed now. Emperor001 (talk) 04:01, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
Dr. No
[edit]I noticed that the article for Julius No still has the following succession box:
All other James Bond villains had these boxes removed. What was the final decision for succession boxes for fictional characters? Should I remove this box or add boxes to the other articles? Emperor001 (talk) 15:54, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
List of James Bond villains
[edit]I just put a table in for the novel villains (to put the novels and films on the same level), but it's kind of messed up (I know presscious little about tables on Wikipedia). Could you please help me fix it? Emperor001 (talk) 15:12, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks. Emperor001 (talk) 16:01, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

WP:FILMS Questionnaire
[edit]As a member of WikiProject Films, you are invited to take part in the project's first questionnaire. It is intended to gauge your participation and views on the project. At the conclusion of the questionnaire, the project's coordinators will use the gathered feedback to find new ways to improve the project and reach out to potential members. The results of the questionnaire will be published in next month's newsletter. If you know of any editors who have edited film articles in the past, please invite them to take part in the questionnaire. Please stop by and take a few minutes to answer the questions so that we can continue to improve our project. Happy editing!

Dear WikiProject Video games member,
You are receiving this message because you have either Category:WikiProject Video games members or {{User WPVG}} somewhere in your userspace and you have edited Wikipedia in recent months.
The Video games project has created a member list to provide a clearer picture of its active membership.
All members have currently been placed in the "Inactive" section by default. Please remove your username from the "Inactive" listing and place it under the "Active" listing if you plan on regularly:
- Editing video game-related pages in the Article namespace
- Participating in video game-related discussions in the Project namespace (WT:VG, WP:AfD, WP:GAN, etc.)
Ideally, members are encouraged to do both, but either one meets our criteria of inclusion. Members still listed inactive at the beginning of November 2009 may be removed. You may re-add yourself to the active list at any time. Thank you for your help, and we look forward to working with you.
Disputed non-free use rationale for File:FYEOcomicbook.jpg
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:FYEOcomicbook.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. SchuminWeb (Talk) 17:10, 25 November 2010 (UTC)
Sixth generation
[edit]Hello, you were identified as the originator of the phrase "Sixth-generation" with regard to the history of video game console articles we have on Wikipedia. There is currently a discussion[1] over the legitimacy of this phrase. You're welcome to share any thoughts you have on the matter. In particular, however, we would like to know whether this phrase was something that you saw somewhere else, or whether it was something you invented after seeing seventh generation below that. If you could please take the time to comment with your thoughts or simply reply with an answer to my question, that would be appreciated. Thanks.陣内Jinnai 04:15, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
The article Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell (novel) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- A search for references failed to find significant coverage in reliable sources to comply with notability requirements. This included web searches for news coverage, books, and journals, which can be seen from the following links:
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell (novel) – news, books, scholar
Consequently, this article is about a subject that appears to lack sufficient notability.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Nczempin (talk) 01:58, 24 February 2011 (UTC)
Main page appearance
[edit]Hello! This is a note to let the main editors of this article know that it will be appearing as the main page featured article on June 3, 2011. You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/June 3, 2011. If you think it is necessary to change the main date, you can request it with the featured article director Raul654 (talk · contribs) or at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/requests. If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you might change it—following the instructions of the suggested formatting. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page so Wikipedia doesn't look bad. :D Thanks! ۞ Tbhotch™ & (ↄ), Problems with my English? 01:42, 2 June 2011 (UTC)
Casino Royale is the 21st film in the James Bond film series and the first to star Daniel Craig as MI6 agent James Bond. It was directed by Martin Campbell and written by Neal Purvis, Robert Wade, and Paul Haggis. Casino Royale is set at the beginning of Bond's career as Agent 007, just as he is earning his license to kill. After preventing a terrorist attack at Miami International Airport, Bond falls for Vesper Lynd, the treasury agent assigned to provide the money he needs to bankrupt terrorist financier Le Chiffre by beating him in a high-stakes poker game. The story arc continues in the following Bond film, Quantum of Solace (2008). The film is a reboot, establishing a new timeline and narrative framework not meant to precede or succeed any previous Bond film. Casting the film involved a widespread search for a new actor to portray James Bond, and significant controversy around Craig when he was selected to succeed Pierce Brosnan. It is the third screen adaptation of Ian Fleming's 1953 novel of the same name. The film received largely positive critical response, with reviewers highlighting Craig's performance and the reinvention of the character of Bond. It earned over $594 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing James Bond film to date. (more...)

MSU Interview
[edit]Dear K1Bond007,
My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.
So a few things about the interviews:
- Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
- Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
- All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
- All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
- The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.
Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your nameHERE instead.
If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.
Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chlopeck (talk • contribs) 03:43, 20 February 2012 (UTC)
WP:VG Interview
[edit]This hasn't hit the mainstream yet, but today is an important day for WP:VG. We've reached our 10 year anniversary! The WP:VG Newsletter crew are interested in running a feature this quarter on the early days of WP:VG and because you are one of the earliest contributors to the WikiProject, we need your help. In the last 10 years a lot has changed and we'd love to hear your perspective on it. One of the biggest changes may be your level of participation in the WikiProject or even in Wikipedia generally. This is why I'm contacting you almost 2 months before the newsletter is due to come out (it's due on April 2). I'm hoping that you'll have time somewhere between now and then to answer a few general questions reflecting on WP:VG and Wikipedia in general. Please contact me here if you would be willing to answer a few questions for our anniversary article. If you can participate, please mark this beside your name on the list, and if you can't participate please also mark this on the list by deleting your name or overstriking it. I hope this will be a fun and interesting quarter for the WP:VG Newsletter! Thanks in advance. -Thibbs (talk) 22:26, 6 February 2014 (UTC)
- PS - If you'd prefer, I could also contact you by email. Let me know if that would be more convenient for you. -Thibbs (talk) 22:39, 6 February 2014 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Extended confirmed protection
[edit]Hello, K1Bond007. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.
Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.
In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:
- Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
- A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.
Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:47, 23 September 2016 (UTC)
Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins
[edit]Hello,
Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers
[edit]Hi K1Bond007.
A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.
It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.
If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:47, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

- A discussion to workshop proposals to amend the administrator inactivity policy at Wikipedia talk:Administrators has been in process since late December 2016.
- Wikipedia:Pending changes/Request for Comment 2016 closed with no consensus for implementing Pending changes level 2 with new criteria for use.
- Following an RfC, an activity requirement is now in place for bots and bot operators.
- When performing some administrative actions the reason field briefly gave suggestions as text was typed. This change has since been reverted so that issues with the implementation can be addressed. (T34950)
- Following the latest RfC concluding that Pending Changes 2 should not be used on the English Wikipedia, an RfC closed with consensus to remove the options for using it from the page protection interface, a change which has now been made. (T156448)
- The Foundation has announced a new community health initiative to combat harassment. This should bring numerous improvements to tools for admins and CheckUsers in 2017.
- The Arbitration Committee released a response to the Wikimedia Foundation's statement on paid editing and outing.
- JohnCD (John Cameron Deas) passed away on 30 December 2016. John began editing Wikipedia seriously during 2007 and became an administrator in November 2009.

The article James McCaffrey (actor) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Doesn't meet WP:ENT, WP:CREATIVE or WP:GNG
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Boleyn (talk) 18:54, 25 July 2017 (UTC)

Question
[edit]Hi, K1Bond007. I'm the King Gemini. I've been a user of Wikipedia for 10 years now. Yes, a decade, but I'm not bragging. I'm just very proud of that accomplishment. In fact, I didn't even know it has been that long. But anyway, I am here because I have a question to ask. The question is how do I become an administrator? I feel that some users who work hard to create and improve some of these articles their work and improvements get tossed to the side and that's not fair. So I ask how can I become an administrator? I appreciate it if you get back to me at your earliest convenience. The King Gemini (talk) 06:08, 13 March 2018 (UTC)

All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)
[edit]ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.
Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.
We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.
For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:03, 4 May 2019 (UTC)

Pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity
[edit]Established policy provides for removal of the administrative permissions of users who have not made any edits or logged actions in the preceding twelve months. Because you have been inactive, your administrative permissions will be removed if you do not return to activity within the next month.
Inactive administrators are encouraged to rejoin the project in earnest rather than to make token edits to avoid loss of administrative permissions. Resources and support for reengaging with the project are available at Wikipedia:WikiProject Editor Retention/administrators. If you do not intend to rejoin the project in the foreseeable future, please consider voluntarily resigning your administrative permissions by making a request at the bureaucrats' noticeboard.
Thank you for your past contributions to the project. — JJMC89 bot 00:09, 1 December 2019 (UTC)
