In the US, in the present day, this song is one of the most commonly played of all his work. Yet, it isn't even mentioned in the article.

Unnecessary and demeaning observation

This comment is in the first paragraph: "An infrequent songwriter, Edmunds has largely relied on cover songs or custom-written material to sustain his career." The same thing could be said of Sinatra, Elvis, Billie Holiday, and scores of other greats, but that is not mentioned in regard to them. Why should it be noted about Dave Edmunds? Maybe it has a place late in the article in reference to material Edmunds has written, though I doubt it. It certainly is not appropriate in the lead paragraph. I remember reading this exact observation in some Rock guide: perhaps Rolling Stone magazine's. I'm removing it. Nicmart 19:29, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

He's not dead, he still records

The entry says, "he was steadfastly devoted to pre-Beatles rock and roll." He recorded at least one Beatles song, Lady Madonna, and did concerts with his friend George Harrison. I think this is bunk, although "steadfastly devoted" could mean almost anything. It also shouldn't be "was" but "is." Edmunds is not deceased and has not stopped recording. he announced his retirement in 2015 (via Brian Setzer), so 'was' is correct now. There were a few songs released in 2021 on Bandcamp, but they seem to be from 2015 as well (the year of his final, instrumental album). Dano67 (talk) 16:57, 19 December 2022 (UTC)

Birthday

Missing Band

Before Love Sculpture and Dave's solo career he had formed another band called Human Beans that worked mostly in London and on the University circuit. They recorded two unsuccessful singles including a cover of 'Morning Dew'. This facet is missing from the Wiki entry. Incidently during my friendship with Dave in the 60s and 70s I always understood he was five years older than me which would indeed place his birthday in 1944 as indicated by the person before me, this needs further investigating.21stCenturyGreenstuff (talk) 23:53, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

Edmunds - Proto Punk Category?

Erm really? Edmunds himself is an out and out rocker who strayed very briefly into chart pop during his "Girls Talk" period. Could a reference be found for any later punk acts that considered him an influence? 21stCenturyGreenstuff (talk) 03:32, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

Date of birth

Searching with FreeBMD, there are no 1944 births in Cardiff for a David Edmunds. There is, however, this entry for a David W. Edmunds, mother's name Chapman, registered in the 3rd quarter (June) of 1943. So I suspect his date of birth should be 15 April 1943. Martinevans123 (talk) 15:32, 20 March 2021 (UTC)

Followong this revert by BrownHairedGirl, we've returned from unsourced 1943 to unsourced 1944. I have searched, without success, for any RS which gives 1944. But I have now found this and this for 1943. Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 16:49, 20 March 2021 (UTC)

My main concern was to fix the WP:REDNOT problem, viz, this addition[1] by @Martinevans123 of a non-existent category.

Since there was no source for the new date, the simplest solution was to revert.

I have no ongoing interest in the topic, but suggest that until a WP:Reliable source is found, that the date is left as is with a {{cn}} tag, and that the article is added to Category:Year of birth uncertain. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 16:58, 20 March 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for your note. Haha, well I guess you could have just changed 1943date → 1943. Never mind. I can find no evidence online for 1944. There is an earlier IP comment here, from 2007, which also questions 1943, but I'm pretty sure 1944 is wrong. Martinevans123 (talk) 17:14, 20 March 2021 (UTC)

Place of birth

It seems that Edmunds was bon in Orbit Street, Adamstown in Cardiff. Here's a 2018 letter to the South Wales Echo confirming this. But I assume that is not a WP:RS source. Is there any better source? Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 11:07, 23 June 2022 (UTC)
