There are two contradicting versions of the history in the web:
- http://www.thailandmuseum.com/thaimuseum_eng/silpa/history.html says it was founded in 1934 by Silpa Bhirasri, who was also first dean
- http://www.geocities.com/arts23silpakorn/artshist.html says it was founded in 1939 by Pin Malagula, who was also first dean - and this is a translation of the university homepage itself
I have picked the second one for the article, please correct if necessary. andy 11:23, 18 Apr 2005 (UTC)
This is from the Silpakorn University page on Silpa:
- In 1937 the school changed its name to , ‘Silpakorn School of Fine Arts’. In 1942, the Fine Arts Department was transferred from the Ministry of Education to the Prime Minister’s Office. Field Marshal P.Pibulsongkram, then PrimeMinister, recognized the importance of art as a crucial branch of national culture. He thus orderd the Fine Arts Department Director General, Phraya Anumanrajadhon, to review the school’s syllabus, and by royal statute transformed it into ‘Silpalorn University’ on the 5 October 1943. So it must have already been in existance before 1937. — KayEss | talk 05:45, 19 Apr 2005 (UTC)
