Purpose

[edit]

The purpose of this category is to hold all military organizations, from militaries to command organizations to military units. This is appropriate because there are many grey areas between these classifications. Forces are a catch-all for all of these organizations (in lieu of a better name).

Sub-classification should be as follows (in order of priority):

  1. By nationality: Categories should contain the nationality of the units underneath firs after World War II. Ex. = World War II Canadian forces. Joint commands (primarily of the allies) should be listed under their alliance. Ex. = World War II Allied commands.
  2. By class: What size or class of organization:
    1. Commands: Overarching command structures, usually exerting control over a particular area, and containing a changing number and mix of units.
    2. Units: Military units of a standard or semi-standard organization, with more or less stable constituent sub-units. Units may also be broken into specific unit sizes: divisions, brigades, etc.
  3. By type: What type of function the unit performed: armoured, infantry, naval, air, etc.

These can grow as the quantity of collected articles grows, and new applicable classifications can be added. Joshbaumgartner 23:21, 2005 Jan 27 (UTC)
